OLD AND ANTIQUE RUGS

Handmade in villages around the town of Kunduz in northern Afghanistan. The rich red of these rugs is created from boiling the root of the madder plant which grows wild in Afghanistan. These rugs and carpets are made from the wool of the Karakul sheep which makes them very hard wearing.

This piece is an extremely good example of an Afghan rug.
